Questions about the A2
Will it drive high-impedance headphones?
Yes. Headphones that ask for more voltage than a laptop output can give are the reason it exists.
Do I need a separate DAC?
No. The USB-C input goes straight into a converter built into the unit.
Why a stepped attenuator?
Because the level you set on Monday should still be the level on Friday. Each step is a fixed position, not a guess on a smooth knob.
