Questions about the range
What is in the range?
Three pieces. The A1 is an active two-way speaker pair. The A2 is a headphone amplifier. The Desk Mat is a dense felt mat that stops the desk resonating under either of them.
Which one should I start with?
Whichever you listen on now. If your speakers are on the desk, the A1. If you work in headphones, the A2. The mat improves either and costs the least.
Do they need each other?
No. Each is a complete thing on its own, and none of them is a component of another.
What is the measurement plot for?
It is the response of the unit you received rather than the model in general. If yours reads differently from the published curve in a way you can hear, that is worth an email.
Is there a subwoofer?
No, and there is no subwoofer output either. The A1 is sealed and rolls off where it rolls off.
What is the return window?
Sixty days. Desk audio is judged at your desk, not in a demo room, so you need it on the desk to judge it.
Where are they made?
Assembled and measured in the UK.

Which piece does which job
The A1 Desk Speaker is an active two-way pair. It is the one to buy if your speakers sit on the desk and you want them to be correct there.
The A2 Headphone Amplifier is for the desk that has to stay quiet. It has the headroom for high-impedance headphones, which is where most built-in outputs run out first.
The Velden Desk Mat is dense felt. It stops the desk surface resonating in sympathy with whatever is sitting on it, and it is the least expensive real improvement in the range.
Why the distance matters
At eighty centimetres you hear mostly the speaker and very little of the room. That is the advantage of a desk, and it is why a speaker voiced for a room can disappoint on one: the room was doing part of the work and it is no longer there to do it.
